ortuguese, banking institutions were forced to adjust their objectives in a different view of what it was in the past, associated with a climate of adaptation on the part of employees. In the case of adaptation to sudden changes, motivation in the workplace becomes essential, because a motivated employee can be more productive, efficient and effective. The objectives that led this study were: to identify the motivation of employees in the Portuguese banking sector in the context of the Restructuring Plan, as well as to know which factors most influence the motivation of employees in the Portuguese banking sector. The methodology adopted was of a quantitative, descriptive and correlational nature and data collection was carried out through a questionnaire by Rego and Carvalho (2002) applied to CGD employees. The results allowed us to conclude that the employees of the sample under study (n=103) are motivated, namely in terms of “success” and “affiliation”, as for “power”, the same is not true, which leads us to conclude that CGD's Restructuring Plan influences the motivation of its employees. These results highlight the importance of understanding the motivation of employees in the Portuguese Banking Sector, complement existing information, introduce new data and leave open new investigations on the subject.
